Everyone has heard a story of Cinderella, a young beautiful girl who finds her happily ever after with a charming prince. Cinderella is truly an amazing story and in the world there is a vast amount of different versions. I have always been fascinated with this fairy tale. So I have decided to embark on an adventure and within my life become acquainted with 300 different accounts of the relatively same tale.

Cinderella Skeleton by Robert D. San Souci

Cinderella Skeleton by Robert D. San Souci
Interesting. Actually this story quite creeped me out. Yet do not be surprised because I am creeped out by the slightest things... that and my mom trained me to be weirded out by skeleton stories. Well, where shall I start. Who came up with this idea? Definitely interesting. When my nieces saw this book they asked my why I got it from the library. They were puzzled by it. It says it is for ages 3-7 but my nieces would not let me read it to them. While some parts were quite entertaining, I think the writer tried too hard. Yet I must give my respect to whoever decided to think outside the box and give me an out of the norm story. All the characters are skeletons, and Cinderella's chores are to hang cobwebs and other creepy things. When troubled and wanting to go to the Halloween ball Cinderella heads out to find a witch. I guess the Halloween theme explains the pumpkin carriage. Oh and instead of her slipper being left behind her whole foot detaches.... Well I guess everyone deserves a Happily Ever After even if you are dead. Yet still the thought of a skeleton Cinderella creeps me out! I must be a girly girl. Illustrations..... interesting. Interesting, what more can I say? p.s. The story is in a rhyming form..... interesting.

But I know this book is perfect for some! My friend Laura absolutely loves it and the concept!

Cinderella by Barbara Karlin

Cinderella Retold by Barbara Karlin
This was a cute retelling of Cinderella. At first I was not sure about the whimsical illustrations but I later decided they added to the splendor. Well this is another basic retelling of the story and a fast read. I liked the quote "Completely smitten, the prince had eyes only for Cinderella." Something different was at the end, Cinderella forgave her step family completely and allowed them to move into the castle. Also she found "a lord of the court" for her stepsisters to marry. Do not take this wrong, but I usually like to see the step family pay for their wrong doings not rewarded. Yet I guess it just goes to show how sweet Cinderella really was. Another interesting fact was the Fairy godmother come to live at the palace to.

That Awful; Cinderella/Cinderella A Classic Tale by Dr. Alvin Granowsky

That Awful Cinderella By Dr. Alvin Granowsky

Cinderella A Classic Tale retold by Dr. Alvin Granowsky
These stories were fun to read. There were combined into one book showing the story Cinderella and the perspective of one of the evil step sisters Drusilla. The story called "That Awful Cinderella" cracked me up! It was the evil stepsister's point of view, and was quite cheesy. I had my niece read it and she said she still believed Cinderella was nice. Drusilla, the supposedly misunderstood step sister, told her story. Telling how Cinderella was gossiping, for that "awful" Cinderella was a plotter and planned to lose her shoe. Really the story just showed how evil Drusilla was while she tried to justify her actions.

On the flip side you learn Cinderella's common story. A girl named Cinderella who was envied by her step family. The steps treated her cruelly and made her do tedious tasks.... well you know the story. This story went into why she was called Cinderella more than most books. It also tells of all the hard work she did to help her sisters get ready for the ball. Another cool thing is that it explained the second ball. The prince put it on in hope of finding his princess again.

Cinderella by SeaStar Books

Cinderella by SeaStar books and Illustrated by K Y Craft
This rendition of Cinderella fit in with my Ap European studies. It focused on a Renaissance or post Renaissance French style. Very detailed and beautiful illustrations. My nieces absolutely loved the dresses and details in all the pictures. This story put more detail into the fairy godmother. Earlier in the story Cinderella took some time to care for an injured bluebird. In turn later the bluebird turned into the Fairy and helped Cinderella in her time of need. Another cool thing I am seeing in the books is the account of more than one ball. This story also had the lizards in it. Cinderella (published: 2000)

Cinderella by Derrydale Books

Since I last wrote to you I have been working diligently to get some books read. Yet you must realize I do have school and homework. I had a great time heading to my local library! It is a treasure full of books! They have at least 30 different stories of Cinderella, which surprises me for my library is not that large. That made me so very happy! I have read seven children stories that I was able to grab from the library! They were all wonderfully different! What a splendid surprise!

Cinderella by Derrydale Books

I actually found this book at my house. It is very small and took me a minute and a half to read. I wish I could post a picture of it. It is old and has dog bites on it.... Basically it was the basic Cinderella story and told the regular plot of Cinderella. A strange recurrence I have found is that for coach men the fairy godmother used lizards. Three books I have read so far have told this detail, it quite amazed me. In one of the pictures Cinderella is in her dress and she looks Russian with magnificent red earmuffs. Cinderella Smith

Cinderella Smith
By Stephanie Barden
Cute illustrations by Diane Goode

A lovely 147 short chapter book. I was able to read it in less than 3 hours. This is another story that took the Cinderella movement and adapted it into the story they wanted to create. In this story the main character's real name is Josephine-Kathryn, a long name for sure, but she is know by all as Cinderella because of her consistent habit of losing a shoe off her foot. If you know a little girl who loves shoes, loves Cinderella, and loves reading I think this book is a cute pick. Little Cinderella Smith doesn't resemble Cinderella much herself, except the whole shoe losing occurrence. But she is recruited by a new girl named Erin who is nervous about meeting her own soon to be step-sissy. So Erin and Cinderella set off to research to see if they will be evil or not before the wedding of Erin's mother. Oh and I just want to say the I love the character Charlie Prince's name. One day I will have a little boy and I shall name him Char (Pronounced like Charcoal.).

Cinder and Ella by Melissa Lemon

This Cinderella fairy tale begins with a strong accusation.
"If you drink water and breathe air, then you have heard the story of Cinderella. And, if you drink water and breath air, you have heard it...wrong.
"There was no fairy godmother, no glass slipper. There wasn't even a prince, at least not in the way that you might think. And if you're expecting everyone to live happily ever after, you may end up being disappointed. But a happy ending isn't something that can be expected or predicted. And while it all happened long ago, the events that took place were memorable enough to stand the test of time, even if the details have been altered."

And so this story begins! But first... Sidetracked me has to take her turn in talking: Has fate would have it, my mom gifted this book for Christmas just yesterday! I have started my college career and life! Whoa it sure is A LOT of change! I see Cinderella books all around me somehow. I look at their covers and say, Oh... Yeah... I still want to do my goal of discovering 300 stories. Well, one at a time! Looks like my mom is helping on my way!

Every time I go to write about Cinder and Ella I just think about that it sure was interesting! The fact is... my mind keeps on wondering about the author Melissa Lemon's decisions to write the story as she did. By no means I am saying that her decision to write the tell so unconventionally (if that is even the word for it) is not a wise decision. It just has me thinking! Well, just as the beginning sample I gave tells a reader should not expect the fairy godmother, a lost glass slipper, and they can't read about evil step relatives and grand pumpkin transformations. But just as tradition has it their is an unexpected journey.

I'm feeling random. So I am going to focus in on a detail I really like! There is a legend of their land that every person has a tree. As long as the tree and the human live, they will help each other to survive. Which play a cool characteristic of this tale!
