Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale
While babysitting my wonderful nieces and nephew we had a little movie marathon, at eight in the morning... I enjoyed the relaxing time. My niece amErika was excited to show me a movie she had recently discovered on NetFlicks. So after watching my oldest niece's (Kezi-Koo-Hoo) entertainment pick it was amErika's turn. To my delight it was a Cinderella story! Yay! I was excited to watch one because sadly I neglected my adventure for awhile. Well to the point the movie was called
Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale
Staring: Sterling Knight (who I used to think was super cute. Major crush...) and Ashlee Hewitt
Directed by: John Dunson and Sean Dunson
My two nieces when starting the movie were fighting about whether or not this movie was a Cinderella story or not. The fight ended with Kezi-Koo-Hoo stomping into her room refusing to watch the "Not really a Cinderella story movie". Erika, sure that is was a Cinderella movie, stayed to watch it with me. This movie resembled many of the modern twists to the fairy tale that have recently been produced. Except this movie did stray far from many of the basic elements that make a Cinderella story what it is. It kinda is bothersome when they leave out some of the ingredients that make Cinderella so special to me. Yes, the girl Elle is with out a mother (and also a father). Yes, she must work hard against a tedious life. And of course there is the charming prince. But missing is the Evil step relatives (along with many other smaller details). Which struck me as quite odd! They are major characters to me. Yet, of course as every teener-bopper movie is required, there is an evil group of mean girls that act as substitution to the evil stepsisters.
Well the rest of the story goes as expected but not in a perfectly Cinderella sort of way.
I do like that the main character Elle has a dream. Cinderella to me is a symbol of a dreamer AND A DOER. She wishes for a better life but does not give up on the life she has. She works hard with what she has and dreams for a greater tomorrow. In truth way she is approaching life is in the right manner. The best way to reach our dreams is to work as diligently has possible to make them a reality.
